The Litter League is a science-based community outreach organization on a mission to end plastic pollution in built and natural environments. We launched in July 2026 and look forward to growing our membership with students at all levels, researchers, community members, staff and more. The Litter League was founded by Dr. Zoie Diana, Assistant Professor, Environmental Science Department at Barnard College, Columbia University in NYC.

What We're Setting Out to Do

Increase education and awareness of plastic pollution through workshops, education and outreach.

Reduce litter from the environment through litter cleanups and, in the future, trash trapping in local waterways.

Work to stop new litter from entering the environment in the first place, through behaviour change and community engagement.

Collaborate with stakeholders to inform evidence- and science-based environmental policy and management decisions.

Publish our data and lessons learned openly and widely — inspiring communities around the world to take action.
